Sanja Ilic & Balkanika will be representing Serbia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2018. The announcement was made today, post results’ declaration at Beovizija 2018.
As reported by WIWI Blogs,
“The winner of Beovizija 2018 was determined by a combination of votes awarded by a jury panel and by the televote. The score system was the same used at Eurovision, with both the jury and the viewers giving two sets of ten points, 1–8, 10 and 12 points.”
The group won the selection competition as they received 12 points from both the jury and the televote. Their competitors, Saska Jankovic and Dusan Svilar, ended up second and third with ten and seven points respectively for their acts.
Sanja Ilic & Balkanika will participate in May with the song “Nova Deca”. Translated as “New Kids”, the single is revolutionary as it conveys the message of change. It talks about hope and how our children and future generation can make this world a better place.
Musically, Aleksandar “Sanja” Ilic brings together traditional Balkan sound and modern beats, which makes the song accessible to everyone.
Serbia is set to compete in the second semi-final of the Eurovision Song Contest. It will be interesting to see if the group will be able to help the country win the competition in 2018.
