According to Celebrity Net Worth, Block had amassed a net worth of $100 million at the time of his death. He built his wealth through several action sports pursuits such as skateboarding, motocross, snowboarding, and motor racing.

Block was born in Long Beach, Calif., on Nov. 21, 1967. As an avid skateboarder, he helped found the skateboard shoe brand DC Shoes in 1994. The brand is still thriving in 2023 with more than 3 million followers on its Instagram page.

Block's real love, however, was racing. So, after DC Shoes was sold to Quicksilver in 2004 for $87 million, he took his talent behind the wheel of a rally car.

In 2010, Block co-founded the Hoonigan Racing Division, and the Hoonigan lifestyle brand followed. According to the brand website, a "hoonigan" is defined as “a person who operates a motor vehicle in an aggressive and unorthodox manner, consisting of, but not limited to, drifting, burnouts, doughnuts as well as acts of automotive aeronautics.”

And it’s Block’s "hoonigan" ways that he's most known for by even those who don’t regularly follow rally racing. His “Gymkhana” videos on the Hoonigan YouTube channel have gotten over 1 billion views by people tuning in to see his daring stunt driving.

Block shared his love of racing with his wife, Lucy, and daughter, Lia, who have raced with him in the 2022 American Rally Association Championship, ESPN reports.

In his last Instagram post, Block encourages his followers to tune into his YouTube channel to see what happens with Lia’s rebuilt 1985 Audi Ur Quattro.

“Will her newly-refinished vintage Audi finally do a donut?? Or will this old car break in the attempt?” Block wrote on Instagram.

Block was killed when the snowmobile he was riding upended, landing on top of him. He was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident, said the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office in a statement.
