They always say in real estate that you can’t make more waterfront! Of course, there is that Ukraine Dam exception.

by Anonymousreply 1June 9, 2023 12:36 AM

I'd rather live in Grey Gardens.

by Anonymousreply 2June 9, 2023 12:38 AM

Live on the bridge instead of under it?

Now why didn't we think of that?

by Anonymousreply 3June 9, 2023 12:39 AM

Sure. Why not?

Paint the exterior Shipping Container Orange (all but the concrete parts). Start again with the bathroom and keep it simple: concrete and tile. The kitchen has a touch of The Postman Always Rings Twice charm, just a touch; again, simple is best. And furnish it to surprise, bold choices. It's not a bad not quite tiny house.

The setting is grim. A town named after one of the most spectacular monuments if architecture looks like that? Pity, the name is rich with dreams.

That should all be blown up like the bridge on the River Kwai.

by Anonymousreply 5June 9, 2023 12:47 AM

Okay, I wouldn't mind living in that 462 square foot house, if it were in some place I'd like to live, I'm single and I've lived comfortably in less space. Once I ripped out that fucking carpet and put in blond wood flooring, I could do something with the interior.

But what would flood insurance cost? Do homeless people camp under the bridge in dry weather? And what the hell is Alhambra, Ca. like? I see it's more or less south of Pasadena, and on a recent trip to the LA Basin, I approached Pasadena from the south, and passed through some areas that didn't look like a great place to stop.

It's literally sitting on the border between Alhambra and San Gabriel. Alhambra is nearly 50% Asian; San Gabriel is over 60% Asian. The other end of Alhambra is adjacent to the El Sereno neighborhood of Los Angeles. And just north is the extremely wealthy city of San Marino (home to the Huntington Library.)

The constant din of rushing water would drive me insane.

by Anonymousreply 8June 9, 2023 11:09 PM

R8 That dinky little open sewer doesn't rush. It trickles gently, and probably slowly enough to attract plenty of bugs.

[quote] But what would flood insurance cost?

I don't know, R6, but the risk is assessed as 'extreme'. The fire risk is minimal, though, probably because of the flooding.

How close is it to the Phil Spector murder castle, also in Alhambra?

by Anonymousreply 11June 9, 2023 11:48 PM

R11 200 yards, as the bullet flies.

by Anonymousreply 12June 9, 2023 11:49 PM

Bridge over Troubled Water.

by Anonymousreply 13June 10, 2023 1:26 AM

That might make an interesting rental unit actually. You can tell people you slept OVER the bridge, as opposed to under it.

by Anonymousreply 15June 10, 2023 1:28 AM

I think the big problem with this is that the street access is the roof. The roof terrace is level with the sidewalk, separated by an iron railing. You go down the stairs to enter the place from the side. No private parking is also a big problem in a driving culture like LA.

by Anonymousreply 17June 10, 2023 1:43 AM

It's the new Fallingwater.

by Anonymousreply 18June 10, 2023 1:46 AM

It’s drab, dreary, and depressing.

by Anonymousreply 19June 10, 2023 1:51 AM

Looking at it from a satellite view it makes more sense. It appears to be physically connected to a business building right next to it, so that is how it has sewer, power, etc. it isn’t just a random house built on a bridge. I would bet it was an apartment for an adjacent business owner at some point.

I don’t know the neighborhood/city, but if you fixed it up I think it would be fine.

Odd but fine.

My kitchen before remodeling had the exact same tiling as the bathroom.

by Anonymousreply 21June 10, 2023 2:50 AM

It looks post-apocalyptic. Nightmare fuel.

by Anonymousreply 22June 10, 2023 3:27 AM

You'd think they'd have painted it and put in flooring to sell it. As it is, its a step up from a trailer. And as R17 said no parking is an issue

So the area would be relatively safe if anything? Thats a big plus in its favour, even if its not very attractive

by Anonymousreply 23June 10, 2023 3:50 AM

A good place for an aging rice queen

by Anonymousreply 24June 10, 2023 3:55 AM

Great Asian food in the 626.

by Anonymousreply 25June 10, 2023 3:57 AM

So, do people walk on top of the house to cross the bridge? The terrace is upstairs, adjacent to the public walkway?

That would be a dealbreaker for me. Plus, the parking situation. I like to have my car closer to me.

It's relatively affordable, though.

by Anonymousreply 26June 10, 2023 4:03 AM

It's genius! Why didn't I think of this?!

by Anonymousreply 27June 10, 2023 4:13 AM

Is there any land involved?

by Anonymousreply 28June 10, 2023 4:14 AM

Only $250,000? So this was built to a house a single homeless person, right?

by Anonymousreply 29June 10, 2023 4:14 AM

I'd rather live in that Denver meth lab that was on the market a couple of months ago.

Gives new meaning to de frase "I have a bridge that would love to sell to you!"

Is this where the Toll Troll lives?
